WILLIAM P. KARDARAS
Bill has extensive experience defending all manner of complex litigation, including terrorism cases, premises liability, products liability, and maritime matters. He has represented hotels, property owners, manufacturers, and distributors from all over the world in U.S. litigation. He has handled complex and multidistrict products liability litigation involving a broad array of products, ranging from latex gloves and medical devices to vehicle tires. He has also defended foreign corporations in claims arising out of mass disasters.

Energizer S.A. v. M/V YM Green – Represents Chinese manufacturer in litigation arising out of an explosion on a vessel in Hong Kong.
Chrobak v. Costa Caribe Coral, et al. – Represented hotel entities in claim of assault by hotel guest in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. Action was dismissed as to all hotel entities.
Mele v. Ocesa Productions – Successfully represented Ocesa Productions in litigation arising of personal injuries sustained at the 1997 U2 concert in Mexico City.
Mahler v. Zhehiang Wanda Expert Co. – Represented Chinese manufacturer in product liability litigation in United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York.
Amman Bombing – Protected the interests of premises owners regarding the 2005 terrorist bombing in Amman, Jordan.
Niv v. Hilton – Successfully represented Hilton Hotels in civil terrorism litigation arising out of the 2004 terrorist bombing at the Taba Hilton in Egypt. Forum non conveniens dismissal affirmed by the Second Circuit Court of Appeals.
Sofamar Danek v. New Hampshire Insurance Co. – Successfully represented NHIC in coverage litigation arising out of Pedicle Screw claims.
Jakarta Bombing – Protected the interests of premises owners regarding the 2003 terrorist bombing in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Pan American Grain v. Puerto Rico Port Authority and Procesadora de Granos de Puerto Rico, Inc., et al. – Successfully defended litigation against Procesadora at trial in Puerto Rico and on Appeal to the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit.
In re Latex Glove Litigation – Represented Malaysian manufacturer of latex gloves in products liability litigation (MDL 1148).
Mark Allen Smith/Mon River Towing, Inc. M/V Rose G. – Successfully defended ship owner in Jones Act seaman claim.
Lemon, et al. v. Matador – Represented Slovakian tire manufacturer in products liability action in Mississippi.
Babcock v. Capital Machines Technologies Co. – Defended Capital Machines in products liability action involving machine press.
Urlic v. American International Group – Successfully defended AIG in coverage action involving issues of extra-territorial application of policy cover.
Bridges v. Leica – Represented German manufacturer in products liability lawsuit involving medical equipment.
Comer v. Titan Tools – Represented third-party defendant Rock & Waterscapes, Inc. in wrongful death action arising out of accident at site in South Africa.
ISOP v. Kilchem Oceana – Successfully resolved maritime subrogation for property loss arising out of allision in Venezuela.
Chomarot Stucco Surface Litigation – Represented French building products manufacturer in mass products liability litigation.
Dow Corning Breast Implant Insurance Coverage Litigation – Represented American International Underwriters in coverage litigation concerning misrepresentation and “expected and intended” language of policies.
Piper Alpha Oil Rig Disaster – Represented insurer on issues relating to P&I payments and property coverage arising out of an oil rig explosion resulting in 176 deaths.
DuPont Plaza Hotel Fire Litigation – Represented insurer in Direct Action Jurisdiction in multidistrict litigation arising out of New Year’s Eve fire killing 98 people and injuring hundreds more.
Turner & Newel Insurance Coverage Litigation – Represented insurers in coverage litigation regarding issues of “expected and intended” in underlying asbestos litigation.
CORCO Explosion Litigation – Represented Caribe Isoprene against claims asserted for $40 Million in property damage as a result of explosion at the CORCO facility in Puerto Rico.
In re Java Sea – Represented underwriters regarding claims arising out of the sinking of the Glomar Java Sea oil rig resulting in 81 deaths.
A&S v. The Tug Fajardo – Represented underwriters regarding a claim for the total loss of a vessel that was stranded while operated by a bareboat charterer. Judgment affirmed by the First Circuit Court of Appeals.
Cancel v. Texaco – Represented Texaco in Jones Act claim tried in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York.
Smart v. Mobil – Represented Mobil Oil in Jones Act claim tried in the Supreme Court of New York, New York County.
Compagnie Maritime Belge (Lloyd Royal) S.A. v. United Terminals – Represented United Terminals in action commenced by vessel owner for indemnification of monies paid in personal injury settlements.
In Re Ocean Ranger Sinking Off Newfoundland – Represented Mobil Oil in multidistrict litigation arising from the sinking of an oil rig off the coast of Newfoundland, which resulted in the deaths of 84 crew members.
Quam v. Mobil – Represented Mobil Oil in Jones Act claim tried in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York. Defense verdict was sustained by the Second Circuit Court of Appeals.
